Microsoft has purchased Affirmed Networks Inc., an Acton, Mass., Cloud-based mobile networking solutions retailer for an undisclosed amount. Microsoft is positioning the acquisition as part of its strategy to work with telecommunications providers who are increasingly managing their network workloads, especially 5G in the cloud.

Microsoft announced its agreement to buy Affirmed Networks on March 26.

Microsoft has worked with a number of telcos to integrate state-of-the-art computing capabilities with 5G networks and Azure cloud services. AT&T is one of Microsoft’s largest partners in the 5G space.

Microsoft’s rival AWS is also targeting 5G. In fact, last fall, Affirmed Networks demonstrated that their UnityCloud 5G Core Solution is powered by AWS.

“Affirmed is capable of delivering the world’s most authentic and most effective 5GC network solution with proven and robust AWS cloud services,” said company officials in a statement.

Affirmed Networks sells its solutions to communications service providers (CSPs) interested in selling 5G services such as mobile broadband, IoT, WiFi roaming, connected cars and more.
